Security forces airman killed in M18 discharge was 21-year-old from Kentucky
Following his death, Air Force Global Strike Command—comprising roughly 35,000 personnel—immediately suspended all M18 pistol use across its bases and ordered 100% inspections of the weapons while investigations proceed. Multiple Air Force entities—including the Office of Special Investigations and headquarters Security Forces leadership—are reviewing whether the discharge was negligent, uncommanded, or criminal.
The M18, a compact 9 mm pistol built on Sig Sauer’s P320 platform, has faced growing scrutiny amid allegations of unintended discharges, some prompting civil lawsuits and bans by police agencies. Sig Sauer has disputed those claims, affirming the pistol is safe and offering assistance to investigators.

5 million above-ground pools recalled after deaths reported in 6 states
The recall concerns pools 48 inches or taller that feature external compression straps wrapping around vertical support legs. These straps may inadvertently act as footholds, enabling unsupervised children—typically aged 22 months to 3 years—to climb into the pools and drown.
Nine child fatalities occurred across six states—California, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Missouri—between 2007 and 2022.
Consumers are urged to stop use immediately, obtain a free repair kit from the manufacturer to replace the strap with a rope, and cut and remove the compression strap after installation. Until fixed, pools should be drained or securely blocked to prevent access.
